What the Haney test measures
Standard soil tests tell you what is present. The Haney test tries to tell you what is working. It uses a water extraction and an H3A extraction that mimics root exudates, then reports respiration, water extractable carbon and nitrogen, and the nutrients those extractions release. Read together, those numbers describe soil as a living system rather than a chemical inventory.
How the bands work
Every parameter is placed in one of five bands, very low through very high, against published Haney ranges. The band is only magnitude. Whether that magnitude is good depends on the parameter: more respiration is better, more soluble salt is not. Each card carries a status of on target, worth watching, or worth acting on, and that status is what the grade is built from.
What it will not do
It will not write your fertility plan. Ranges are general and your soil is specific, so read these results alongside your own history, texture, pH, and what the crop actually did. This is a reading aid, not a recommendation.
