The opportunity
Four inches decide the next four months.
A root does not search widely in its first three weeks. It works the soil directly beneath the seed, and it takes whatever is already there. In-furrow extends seed treatment biology out into the soil where roots actually explore.
Surface and closure
Residue, crust and sidewall compaction. Good closure keeps a dry May from cooking the biology you just applied.
Seed and starter
The seed, the liquid stream and the first radicle occupy the same cubic inches. This is where an in-furrow program earns its place, and where salt injury happens if the chemistry is wrong.
Nodal root zone
By V2 the crop switches to nodal roots. Carbon and biology placed at planting have already moved into this band with moisture.
Moisture and reserve fertility
Deeper roots reach banked nutrients only if early growth was strong enough to build the structure to get there.

Why chitin matters
Chitin is a structural polysaccharide found in fungal cell walls and insect exoskeletons. Applied in-furrow, it stimulates populations of chitin degrading bacteria, primarily actinomycetes and Bacillus species, which are also among the most effective natural suppressors of soil borne fungal pathogens. The result is a more biologically competitive root zone from day one, without adding a fungicide.
