Nutrient Antagonism Chart
No mineral lives alone on an island and our fertility programs shouldn’t expect them to either. Nitrogen alone doesn’t produce a dark green and healthy crop. Nitrogen in excess, can actually create plant health issues. This isn't just the case with nitrogen. Many of our plant nutrient deficiencies are actually created by over application of certain minerals.
Illustrated below is the nutrient antagonism chart. The chart shows all positively charged cations on the left. On the right you will find all the negatively charged anions. The top half of the chart contains all of the macronutrients and the bottom contains all of the micronutrients or trace elements. The macros, with the exception of calcium, are mobile within a plant. Nutrients in opposing quadrants have synergistic relationships, while nutrients in neighboring quadrants have antagonistic relationships.
